10-23-2009

Well it's been awhile since I've been on here to write anything. Which means we have been busy and a lot has gone on.

Football and volleyball season has ended and our weekends won't be taken up so much with kids sports. We do have a volleyball tournament left to play on 10-31-09.

Koen had a great time playing flag football this year. It was his last year to play flag. If he wants to play next year it will be tackle. Yikes!! I am not sure I am ready for that. He did awesome in football. Koen played quarterback quite a few times. He liked playing defense. He threw his first interception on 10-17-2009. I gave him a hard time. Kind-of :)

Kenna played really well in volleyball and even served overhand sometimes. I showed her how to dink the ball over the net and I think she really enjoyed learning some new 'tricks' in volleyball.

Kammie is really getting into school and liking it a lot. She had school pictures today and she likes wearing dresses. This surprises me because she has always been very tomboyish. I gave her a 'trim' and she got really upset and said she wanted her hair back!

Kampman has been a growing 18 month old. He is learning so many new words. One of my favorites is "tongue" The kids like making him say things. Especially their names. K.J. was sick and taking antibiotics for about two weeks. He took amoxicillon which is the "pink stuff" One time while I was giving it to him he said "pink" It was his first color he recognized!

Jed ran his 2nd marathon on 10-18-2009. He did great and shaved somewhere between 11 and 15 minutes off his time. I say between because he had a delay of 20-24 minutes waiting for the airforce personnel to open the gate at the 9 mile mark. The marathon started in Derby and went for 9 miles then it went onto McConnell Airforce base for the next 9 miles, then it finished in downtown Wichita. Right away he said "I am never doing that again" but within 1 hr he said "next time I run a marathon....." We are very proud of him.

Nothing new with me! I did not train to do the half marathon, and my partner for the marathon relay moved away so I did not train for that. Basically I am not training to run at all, but maybe in the future I will.

The kids are excited for halloween eventhough Kampman is the only one with a costume so far. I am hoping I can make the other kids with stuff around the house. If only I could get so lucky!!

Anyway, until next time....
God Bless,
Melissa

Well school is in full swing, everyone seems to be enjoying it so far. Kenna already had school pictures and let me know that she didn't smile showing her teeth since she is missing so many of them! Kammie loves school and wishes to go everyday. She is upset that there is no school on Monday, Labor Day. :( Koen is already talking about what he plans to get his teacher for Christmas! He has said she loves KSU so, it has to be something that is KSU.

Kampman is talking so much. He is hilarious all the time and nods his head when I ask him a question with a yes answer!! It's an overexaggerated nod too.

Koen and Kenna started football and volleyball this week. Jed is coaching Koen's team and I am coaching Kenna's team. This is the third year we've done it so hopefully it will go smoothly. Jed seems excited about his team.

Today is the first Saturday of college football. YEAH!!! Go Irish!! I think we are planning to watch football all weekend. No plans for Monday, Labor Day, yet. I hope we just lay around and be lazy. Not really much else going on here lately. Sorry to disappoint. But like I said football and volleyball has begun, and that means we will be playing games every weekend. So, lots to talk about in the weeks to come!

8-8-09

Well this week has been crazy. First, I came into work on Monday to find out that my boss wanted me to cut the hours in the nursery. So I cut the hours from 150 to 134 a week. Pretty good right? No, he wanted them cut all the way to 125 a week. Pretty difficult to do and keep good employees. Hopefully I have figured it out though. Then, on Tuesday I find out that my other nursery is not doing so good. I am told to restructure the whole thing. I think I have it figured out also, we'll see come Tuesday. That's when I get to tell my employees the bad news.

In other news: Jed went to the doctor on Tuesday for his annual exam and blood drawn. Everything is great!! His blood pressure is down. His Cholesteral is down. His kidneys, liver heart, thyroid & all blood related organs are all working great. So he is good to go for another year!! He is busy with his new job in ArkCity, KS. And he is also busy training for his second marathon in October.

I got the kids enrolled for 5th and 2nd grades. I can't believe I am going to have a 5th grader. WOW! I am getting old. Kammie is super excited for Pre-K too. She starts Aug. 19th and Kenna and Koen start Aug. 17th. Only one more week taking all 4 kids to Genesis with me!! Yeah!!

Well summer is almost over and so we are heading to the Mulvane pool today to cool off. I hope everybody has had a great summer.....

First ever Schanz family blog!!!!!!!!!

7-31-09

Welcome to the first ever Schanz family blog!!!! I am very excited about blogging about our family. I am not sure how often I will blog yet, but if it's anything like facebook or twitter, then I'll blog quite a bit. Lucky you!! So it has been an eventful summer at the Schanz house. First I was excited for the kids to get out of school. Now I am excited for them to go back to school. ALL DAY!!! Kammie will be starting school for the first time this fall and she is sooooo excited. Kenna will go to 5th grade and Koen will go to 2nd grade. Kampman will just hang with mom.

Jed got a job with a hotel group in June. Then he quit 2 weeks later to take a job at Creekstone Farms in Ark City. Yep, He's in the beef business. Hopefully it is the job he has been looking for. Jed is also marathon training again. This time I think he is going to do the Wichita marathon, but there's still a chance he will be doing the Kansas City marathon. The problem is: it is the same weekend, October 17th & 18th. I guess we'll see what he decides. I am training for the half marathon. I plan on doing the marathon relay with a friend, but if it doesn't work out then I might just do the half marathon in KC with Jed. Pray that I can just do the training. God knows I need the prayers. I am not a runner...at all.

My brother Justin visited us this summer from Austrailia.(sp?) He brought his kids with him. they are 8 yrs & 6 yrs old. We had a great time getting to know them. Us Schanzs' minus Kampman, Justin, his 2 kids, my sister Rebekah, & her friend TJ all went on a float trip in Pineville, MO. We had a great time even though the river was way low. Kenna, I , Justin and his 2 kids went to New York City together in July. We had a great time there too! Lots to see in New York and we really tried to see it all. My favorite part was the World Trade Center Museum. It was amazing to see all the people who came together to help out after 9-11-01 happened! Kenna says her favorite part was the Empire State Building.

In June we played lots of baseball and softball and Kammie played her first organized sport: Blastball. It was quite a bit of work getting everyone to practice and games on the same night but we got it done. Also for the first week of games, Jed was finishing real estate classes.

Jed finished real estate class in June and is now a realtor!!! He can sell you a house and help you buy a house now. But first he has to hang his license with a realtor. I don't know when he is doing that though.

Well I don't have much else to say. I'm sure I will think of lots once I log off though.......lol

Thanks for reading,
